Content
The course entitled Sociology of Gender and Sexuality aims to train students in the issues surrounding gender inequalities in general, and in the field of sexuality in particular, by giving them the necessary grounding to identify them and understand their underlying mechanisms.
After an introductory session, the course explores the contributions of gender studies to the analysis of human sexuality. This is then approached from three complementary angles: as an institution, as an experience, and finally as an identity, enabling a global and critical understanding of sexual norms and practices in our societies. The final session will be dedicated to student questions and answers.

The objectives of the course are :
- Learn about the contributions of different authors and feminist currents to sexuality studies.
- Examine sexuality as a social fact, beyond its biological or individual dimension, i.e. analyze it as an institution, an experience and an identity.
- Analyze the mechanisms by which (hetero)sexuality participates in the construction, legitimization and naturalization of the gender order.
- Construct a reflexive posture in the face of discourses on sexuality, by critically confronting them with different theoretical perspectives.
Teaching methods
The course is based mainly on lectures, which combine theoretical foundations and empirical examples with reflection on the collection and use of sensitive data.
Two sessions are specifically devoted to guest researchers, who present their fieldwork. These sessions give students the opportunity to explore concrete research projects and discuss their methodological and theoretical implications.

Evaluation methods
Assessment procedures are presented in the first class and are set out in a document available on moodle.
The assessment consists of a critical reading of a text (press article, blog, etc.) on sexuality, drawing on concepts seen in class.
In both the first and second sessions, the assessment is written (MCQs and open-ended questions).
