Content
The course begins by presenting an overview of the main participatory methods (focus groups, scenario-building exercises, etc.), highlighting their assumptions, advantages, and disadvantages.
The course then addresses two particularly fruitful participatory approaches for analyzing situations or phenomena that pose problems for the actors concerned: the group analysis method (MAG) and/or the reflective forum. After a brief presentation of how they work, students will be given practical experience of these methods, both as facilitators and/or as participants.
Sociology will be experienced here as a practice of interaction and social intervention. Particular attention will be paid to the professional attitudes that such participatory methods imply.
Teaching methods
 • A lecture followed by discussions on the main participatory methods;
• Readings from the portfolio of texts, particularly on MAG and/or the reflective forum;
• Discussions on case studies to understand the dynamics that arise in such debates;
• The practical implementation of a participatory method (reflective forum and/or MAG), including critical discussions on how to conduct and analyze these participatory debates.
Evaluation methods
The evaluation is based primarily on two types of interventions. On the one hand, in situ evidence of leadership and intervention skills during the implementation of analytical methods. On the other hand, written analytical skills with regard to the issues that arose during a participatory method.
