Main themes
The course analyses the social challenge of development by examining the complex relations between liberalisation, growth, poverty and inequalities from a development perspective. A comparative approach is used to investigate issues resulting from globalisation in various regions of the world and to identify common issues of development in northern, southern and eastern regions.
Learning outcomes

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

1 The aim of this course is to make students aware of general issues in development policy, through critical analysis of the key issues stimulating the current debate on globalisation.
 
Content
The course provides an overview of the evolution of economic and social conditions worldwide since the end of the Second World War. It emphasizes the dual process of integration and exclusion at work in the globalized economy, which simultaneously generates opportunities for growth and social fragmentation and inequalities. It also critically examines the main domestic and international policies that have been promoted. The course has a strong comparative dimension, juxtaposing development experiences across different world regions.
Teaching methods
Lectures supplemented with lecture notes (PowerPoint) and a few required readings.
Evaluation methods
Written exam consisting of multiple-choice questions and/or short essay questions (January and August sessions).

For the assessment of this course unit, the use of artificial intelligence is strictly prohibited, whether as a language assistant, an exploration and ideation tool, or a writing tool.
