Content
The course covers the main concepts and theoretical debates surrounding political representation, as well as an empirical study of the actors and mechanisms that perform the function of representation (elections, parties, voters, candidates, leaders).
Teaching methods
The course is based on mandatory readings prepared in advance and discussed collectively. Each session combines a theoretical introduction by the instructor, a presentation by students applying the concepts to a specific case, and a guided discussion. This format aims to develop conceptual mastery, empirical analysis, and critical reasoning skills.
Evaluation methods
Students submit a final paper at the end of the course. The paper applies the theoretical concepts of political representation to a concrete case of the student’s choice (e.g. an electoral campaign, a party manifesto, a parliamentary debate, or a social movement claim). Depending on class size, the work may be completed individually or in small groups.
