Main themes
The course will consist of five parts. The first part will focus on the labour market situation in Belgium and Europe, as well as defining fundamental notions and concepts that enable us to understand and analyse decisions and issues relating to employment policies. The second part will present the actors and main objectives/guidelines of employment policies in Europe, Belgium and its regions. The third part will briefly discuss the different models of social protection. The fourth part will address the reforms carried out in Europe since the late 1990s. The fifth part will deal with the effects, evaluation and critical analysis of employment policies.
 
Learning outcomes

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

• Master the various key concepts and ideas relating to employment policies;
• Explain national employment policy models and different social protection systems;
• Analyse the main mechanisms structuring employment policies and their consistency;
• Explain the main characteristics of the reforms carried out in Europe since the late 1990s;
• Identify the position of the main actors in employment policy;
• Articulate employment policies with other public policies;
• State and define the various effects of employment policies;
• Explain the foundations, objectives and methods of evaluating employment policies;
• Propose a critical analysis of employment policies based on theoretical frameworks.

This teaching will be dispensed in baffled timetable of in the evening and/or of Saturday morning.
