Content
The aim of this seminar is to introduce students to the master dissertation process. It should provide students with an opportunity to begin the reflection and research that must be carried out throughout the first and second years of the Master's programme, leading to the completion of the dissertation at the end of Block 2 of the Master's programme.
This seminar should enable students to establish the principles and guidelines for their dissertation work. It will encourage students to (1) discover, approach and analyse research work; (2) discuss it in the context of the state of the art; (3) base their research questions on their reading; (4) go as far as possible in defining and delimiting the subject of their dissertation; (5) advance in their problematisation.

Teaching methods
The seminar includes a number of lectures, question-and-answer sessions, and discussions with students to help them develop a state-of-the-art overview that will form the basis of their dissertation work.
Evaluation methods
First session
The assessment for the dissertation support seminar consists of producing a detailed literature review that provides a rigorous initial presentation of the dissertation topic and identifies the main concepts and notions and the theories that develop them.
In addition, in order to pass the support seminar, students must also have submitted their interim work. No extensions or delays will be granted. If students have not submitted their interim work, they will automatically fail the seminar.
To pass the seminar, students must therefore
- have submitted all three pieces of intermediary work
- have obtained a mark of over 10 in the dissertation support seminar assessment
Second session
If you did not pass the seminar in January, the second session takes place in August (please note: failing the seminar will affect your eligibility for Erasmus, as you must have passed all your exams in June in order to participate).
In the second session, students must take an oral exam based on documents selected by the teacher. In practical terms, students have a limited amount of time to read a scientific article, on which they are then asked a series of questions.
Please note: In the context of assessing this teaching unit, the use of artificial intelligence is generally prohibited. Its use as a language assistant and exploration tool is permitted only after discussion with the course lecturer.
The seminar must be passed in order to be able to submit the dissertation.
