Main themes
  • The study of the major current issues in terms of economics and management having an impact on Belgium and more particularly on the Walloon industrial network.
  • The analysis of trends via figures on the evolution of sectors from a microeconomic and macroeconomic perspective.
  • Understanding how organizations function in a VUCA context (volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous).
  • Putting current economic and managerial issues into perspective in the media and in media-political debates.
  • The critical step back on these current socio-political-economic issues.

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

Competencies
Given the « competencies referential » linked to the LSM Master in Management and in Business Engineering, this course mainly develops the following competencies:
  • 2.1 Master the core knowledge of each area of management.
  • 1.1 Demonstrate independent reasoning, look critically and consciously at acquired knowledge (both academic and common sense) and managerial practices, in light of emerging circumstances and their outcomes.
  • 1.3 Decide and act responsibly, while taking into account the social, economic and environmental, sometimes antinomic, outcomes in the short, medium and long term, for the various stakeholders.
  • 5.2 Position and understand the functioning of an organization, in its local and international socio-economic dimensions and identify the associated strategic issues and operational decisions.
  • 8.1 Express a clear and structured message, both orally and in writing in their mother tongue, in English and ideally, in a third language, adapted to the audience and using context specific communication standards.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to:
  • develop capacities to analyze the sectoral environment of a company, to understand the dynamics of the various industrial sectors concerned, to perceive the specific current issues and to systematically place its reflection in an international and prospective perspective.
  • develop critical thinking and ability to understand current economic events, both individually and collectively, through the collection and analysis of relevant information, the preparation of a current affairs dossier and the confrontation of opinions during oral presentations.
  • learn to confront ideas and lead debates on current economic and managerial situations with business leaders or invited experts.
  • be more aware of ethical issues related to current economic and managerial issues in order to critically and constructively question the challenges of sustainable and responsible socio-economic development.
