Content

The course covers the pathophysiological mechanisms involved in the development of human non-communicable diseases and various aspects of biomedical research on them. The connection between molecular, cellular, and tissue dysfunctions and their effects on the entire organism will be highlighted wherever possible. Pathologies covered: diabetes and complications; cardiovascular diseases; pulmonary diseases; diseases of the reproductive system.

Teaching methods

According to the sections, the course consists of lectures, flipped classrooms, or any other instructional method deemed appropriate by the instructor.

Evaluation methods

Written exam on the scheduled date during sessions 2 and 3. Written or oral exam when an exam must be organized on another date (during or outside of session) for exceptional circumstances provided for in the academic/exam regulations.
The final grade is the geometric mean of the grades obtained for each part, so a major deficiency in a single part significantly lowers the final grade (formula: final grade/20 = fourth root of the product of the 4 grades/20 obtained).

Other information

This course requires a solid understanding of cell and molecular biology as well as general and systems physiology. The course is designed in coordination with the medical pathology course.
