Various second-year courses allow us to consider the question of documentary resources in history in depth. | |
Content
This course offers an overview of the different types of resources (secondary sources) as well as their evolution through time. It introduces the main principles of heuristic research: bibliographical reference systems, structure and functioning of a library, online databases, principles and uses of Open Access publications. The students are introduced to the different categories of published works, their relevance and their use: encyclopedias and dictionaries, different types of bibliographies, monographs, journals; it also introduces published historical sources. The course has a large chronological focus, spanning from Classical Antiquity to the present time.
Teaching methods
Lecture-based course and practical exercise sessions in the library. Successful completion of the course requires attending both components.

Evaluation methods
Continuous assessment (40%): a bibliographic survey assignment carried out over the course of the year.The bibliography must have at least 100 references to be considered for evaluation.
Final assessment (60%): a two-part exam comprising a written component on the theoretical aspects of the course, followed by a practical component in the library.
Successful completion of the course requires submission of each part of the assessment. Students may not take the final examination without having submitted the bibliographic survey
