Prerequisites
Students must have level B1+ in English or have taken the course LANGC1202 (ENGLISH Objective B1 + COMU) or another equivalent course corresponding to Level B1+ of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

Content
The aim of this course is to help students reach level B2 of the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) through a variety of activities covering the four skills (reading comprehension, listening comprehension, writing and speaking). The grammar and vocabulary required to achieve this aim will also be covered.
Teaching methods
The course is structured around a hybrid approach, combining face-to-face sessions – during which students are expected to attend and participate actively – with a series of online activities via the Moodle platform, which students must complete at their own pace and independently, either before or after the class sessions.
Evaluation methods
The assessment includes several mandatory components:
- A series of continuous assessment activities (25%), including:
- active participation in the Warm-up discussions;
- active participation in the writing activities;
- completion of the required comprehension and extension activities, as well as mandatory vocabulary and grammar exercises, some of which are available on the course Moodle page and must meet the following criteria: 2 attempts, a minimum score of 60% correct answers, unless otherwise specified;
- attendance and participation in class (maximum of 2 unjustified absences per semester).
- A written examination in January/June for all students (see the syllabus for further information, 50%).
- A group discussion/debate at the end of the semester on a topic related to the field of study (25%).
Students who do not participate in the oral assessment (the group mini-debate during the second semester) or who do not sit the written examination will be recorded as absent.
SEPTEMBER
In September, the written examination (50%) and the oral examination (group discussion/debate, 25%) must be retaken if the student has failed both components.
A student who has obtained a mark of 10/20 or higher in one of the two components may choose to retake only the component that was failed, or to retake both components if they wish to improve their grade. In that case, the new mark obtained will become the final mark.
In addition, the Continuous Assessment component will be included in the September grade if it is to the student's advantage.
