ENGLISH Objective B1 (SOCA, HUSO, SPOL)

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

• LO4. Communicate and collaborate in French and two foreign languages, both orally and in writing, while adapting to the audience and context to integrate into an international environment.
  • LO4.2. For 2 foreign languages (English and Dutch, German, or Spanish): 
    • Communicate orally and in writing in a clear, coherent, well-argued, and fluent manner on general topics or subjects related to the field of study.
    • Identify differences and similarities between the target culture (associated with the language) and the culture of origin.
    • Use appropriate strategies to establish contact with speakers of the target culture.
  • LO4.4. Adopt an effective and respectful dialogue attitude by adjusting the communication mode according to the interlocutor (peers, teachers, administrative staff, socio-professional environment) and demonstrating listening skills, empathy, and assertiveness.

• follow and understand the main points of clear spoken English in conversations, interviews, podcasts and short presentations on familiar topics and those related to their field of study.

• understand the main ideas and key details of short authentic texts dealing with university life, personal experiences and everyday topics relevant to their field of study.

• communicate with increasing confidence during discussions, role-plays and presentations, using functional language.

• write coherent texts, messages and short reflections, using appropriate grammar and vocabulary to express their opinions, experiences and plans for the future.

• write notes and messages to request or pass on simple information of immediate relevance and to convey the points they consider important.

• Have sufficient linguistic skills to get by, and enough vocabulary to express themselves—albeit with some hesitation and circumlocutions—on topics such as family, leisure and interests, studies, work, travel and current affairs; however, their limited vocabulary leads to repetition and, at times, even difficulty in formulating their thoughts.
