Through workshops and seminars, this course explores various aspects of artistic creation alongside an artist-in-residence at UCLouvain. For the 2026–2027 academic year, the campus will be hosted by illustrator and comic book author Alix Garin.
No prior experience in art, drawing, or artistic practice is required to take this course. The course is open to everyone, regardless of academic background or prior experience. It is designed for students eager to experiment with creative practice, to tell and share a story, without any technical skill requirements.

| The goal of the course is to introduce students to an artistic practice centered on visual and textual storytelling, and to help them understand the various aspects of the creative process, from the initial conception of an idea to its development and presentation. Students will reflect on their creative approach, learn to experiment with different forms, and integrate their work into a collaborative process. |

Content
Through a series of hands-on workshops and a weekend residency, students will work on shared assignments focused on narrative, text, and imagery. The course emphasizes experimentation, the sharing of approaches, and discussion.
The residency will conclude with a public presentation, in the form of an exhibition and a collective fanzine, showcasing the projects developed over the semester.

Teaching methods
The course is based on an interactive approach that combines hands-on workshops, discussion sessions, and group sharing. Guided by the artist-in-residence, students are encouraged to experiment freely, both individually and collectively, based on shared guidelines.
The emphasis is on exploration, exchanging perspectives, listening, and reflecting on the creative process, rather than on achieving a final result.

Evaluation methods
Regular attendance and active participation in class sessions are essential. The student’s engagement in the creative process, their ability to reflect, and their commitment to group work are the primary evaluation criteria.
