Content
Interpretation based on live speeches, texts read out in session, or audio or video recordings addressing current social issues
Teaching methods
Face-to-face lectures, tutorials in the interpreting studio, and home-based work (e-learning).
This module aims to help students master simultaneous interpreting techniques. The course consists of practical exercises in simultaneous interpreting from French into LSFB, followed by detailed feedback from the lecturer on the student’s performance. The emphasis is on a deep and nuanced understanding of the message, mastering the discourse, the quality of the target language (LSFB) at a high level of accuracy, and effective communication.
Evaluation methods
Final assessment leading to certification, consisting of two simultaneous interpreting tasks from French to LSFB before a professional panel comprising EU lecturers and professional interpreters from outside the programme
The final mark is calculated as the average of the marks obtained for the two tasks. The same assessment method is applied during both the January and August/September sessions.
In the second session, only those performances that were not passed in the first session are retaken. The marks obtained for performances that were passed are retained for the calculation of the final mark.
If the unit is not passed within a year, all exams will have to be retaken the following year.
Attendance at face-to-face sessions is compulsory. Pursuant to Article 73 of the General Regulations governing Studies and Examinations, a student’s unauthorised absence from a course may result in disciplinary action; course lecturers may propose to the examination board that a student who has not attended at least 80 per cent of the classes be barred from sitting the January or August/September examination sessions.
