Content
The course consists of practical exercises in simultaneous interpreting, using audio recordings or live material, covering current social issues from French into LSFB. The speeches used deal with complex topics and a wide range of in-depth current affairs and social issues (economics, finance, international institutions, technology, medicine, etc.). The sources used are diverse and the speakers varied, in order to prepare students to deal with all types of situations, speakers and topics.
Students are also given the opportunity to practise working in pairs as interpreters (establishing a negotiated working relationship, prompting, providing support and giving constructive feedback).

Teaching methods
Face-to-face lectures, tutorials in the interpreting studio, and homework (e-learning).
Students’ performances are listened to and commented on by both their peers and the lecturers. At this stage of the course, particular attention is paid to fidelity to the original speech, to internalising the speaker’s discourse on complex topics and lines of reasoning, to following the speaker’s train of thought, to conveying the speaker’s nuances and intentions, and to the fluent use of the language of expression (LSFB) with a high degree of precision, the ability to adapt to new communicative situations, quick-wittedness, tact and self-control.

Evaluation methods
Continuous formative assessment and final summative assessment.
Final summative assessment in the form of two French-to-LSFB simultaneous interpreting sessions before a professional panel comprising lecturers from the teaching unit, professional interpreters from outside the course, and representatives from the interpreting services of international organisations.
The final mark will consist of two integrated components. Passing both parts is essential to demonstrate the skills and knowledge defined in the learning outcomes for this module. The exam can only be passed if each assessment activity is passed. If the final mark is below 10/20, only the part failed during the June sitting may be retaken during the August/September sitting.
If the unit is not passed within a year, all exams will have to be retaken the following year.
Attendance at classroom sessions is compulsory. In accordance with article 73 of the General Regulations governing Studies and Examinations, unjustified absence from a course may be penalised, and the course teachers may propose to the jury that a student who has not attended at least 80% of the classes be refused registration for the January or August/September sessions.
