General introduction to the concept of ‘heritage’ and interventions on built heritage, methodology of preliminary studies and multidisciplinary approach, vocabulary. 
Learning outcomes

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

1 Understand current general issues and challenges relating to heritage, particularly built heritage.
 
2 Identify the specific issues involved in heritage rehabilitation, including conservation, restoration and conversion.
 
3 Mastering the methodological foundations of preliminary studies and the multidisciplinary approach.  
 
4 Establish the required common knowledge base, particularly in terms of terminology, typology and context, regardless of previous academic qualifications.  
 
5 Know the basic bibliographical references to acquire, thanks to a portfolio of readings and reference works.   
 
Content
  • General introduction ; 
  • Issues surrounding the conservation/restoration and conversion of heritage sites ;  
  • Methodology and purpose of preliminary studies and multidisciplinary approaches ;   
  • Research methodology, reference works and tools essential for initiating and developing a scientific study ;  
  • Template for correctly referencing data and graphic documents used ;  
  • Case study(ies) to address the fundamentals of an intervention philosophy, monitor the development of a conservation/restoration or conversion project through to its completion, and also draft the subsequent intervention file and implement a monitoring strategy (monitoring, maintenance, prevention, etc.).
