Learning outcomes

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

1 Identify the structure of historic buildings, their original features and their heritage value. 
 
2 Establish a strategy that respects the building for the conservation and restoration of structures, for thermal and, where applicable, acoustic insulation, and for the integration of contemporary comfort and safety equipment, all in a spirit of sustainable development. 
 
Content
  • Study of traditional (historical) comfort techniques: heating, ventilation, insulation, hygiene.  
  • General study of contemporary equipment, mobility and comfort techniques and their adaptation to the specific context of historic buildings.  
  • Issues of sustainable development, energy consumption and building insulation in the specific context of historic buildings. 
Teaching methods
Lectures, seminars and conferences, site visits… 
Evaluation methods
Written and/or oral assignment presenting intervention strategies for the parties, indoor climate, equipment integration and energy performance, all in a spirit of sustainable development. Peer assessment in January (or August, in case of failure).

 Course materials are made available as the course progresses.
