- to understand the specificities of the scientific reasoning
- to assimilate methods of scientific reasoning
- identify a relevant topic of research for the Master's dissertation
Teaching methods
The active pedagogy method is based on just-in-time teaching, work in the classroom and interactions via an online tool (Wooclap).
Evaluation methods
The student must submit 5 individual works (3 points each, ie 15 points in total):
  • Answers to a question by different media
  • identification errors of reasoning
  • hypothetico-deductive or inductive method
  • theoretical causal diagram
  • justification research question
The 3 individual technical activities will each be graded out of 3 points (9 points in total):
  • Bibliographic research and bibliography using Zotero
  • Use of artificial intelligence
  • Non-violent communication and group work
Attendance at the 5 in-class activities and the 4 practical sessions is compulsory (2 points per attendance, 18 points in total).
The interim summary sheet must be submitted without fail (3 points). A feedback session on this interim sheet is organised by appointment only.
The final summary sheet (55 points) is to be submitted in January during the exam session and counts as the exam.
The final grade is the weighted average of the continuous assessment grades and the final summary sheet grade. In the final grade, continuous assessment accounts for 45% and the final summary sheet for 55%.
PLEASE NOTE: In the second exam session, only the final summary sheet is to be submitted and counts for 55% of the final grade, with continuous assessment accounting for the remaining 45%. Students will therefore not have the opportunity to retake the continuous assessment components.
PLEASE NOTE: The use of artificial intelligence is not prohibited, but must comply with the rules set out in the ESPO faculty note on the subject, which is available on its intranet site for students (http://uclouvain.be/consignes-chatgpt)
Online resources
A portfolio of readings is offered to students. Most of the additional references are available on MoodleUCL, or open access on the internet.
