This course introduces the fundamental principles of anatomy and histology that are essential for future pharmacists. This integrated approach provides a better understanding of the functioning of organs at both the macroscopic and microscopic levels. The various organ systems, as well as their topography, will be addressed so that, throughout the remainder of their curriculum, students have sufficient knowledge to understand various pathologies, as well as the mechanisms of action of medicines and their adverse effects.
Anatomy is the science that studies and describes the form and structure of living organisms, as well as the relationships between the different organs and tissues of which they are composed. Special histology, also referred to as microscopic anatomy, studies the architecture of organs, that is, the organization and association of the different tissues of which they are composed. Certain aspects of normal and pathological physiology will also be presented in order to facilitate a better understanding of the relationship between the structure and function of organs. This teaching unit will focus on:

- the male reproductive system
- the urinary system
- the integumentary system
- the mammary gland
- the digestive system, including the liver, biliary tract, and pancreas
- the immune system and lymph nodes
- the respiratory system
- the cardiovascular system and hematopoiesis
- the endocrine system
- the central nervous system and sensory organs
- the musculoskeletal system (head, trunk, upper limb, lower limb)
Teaching methods
The teaching is delivered through theoretical lectures.
The lectures are conducted in a lecture hall and supported by PowerPoint presentations, which are made available to students via the Moodle platform.

Evaluation methods
The final assessment consists of a multiple-choice examination. Some questions may be accompanied by a topographical diagram or a photomicrograph.

The course is offered during the second semester at the Alma campus.
Prerequisite: proficiency in French.
Integration into the Bachelor’s programme in Pharmaceutical Sciences: teaching of the Human Physiology course (WPHAR1207).
A basic knowledge of English may be useful for understanding the supplementary illustrations presented in the PowerPoint materials.
