The course focuses on the architecture of housing.
It covers several themes:
1/ Definitions of what housing is, and the relevance of a course on the subject,
2/ An approach to the notion of residential typologies at three scales (the building, the housing unit, the room) and how these tools are essential for architects,
3/ An exploration of key historical milestones in the architectural history of housing,
4/ An analysis of paradigmatic examples in Belgium and Brussels,
5/ An analysis of contemporary housing issues and the architectural strategies (polyvalence, flexibility, neutral space, evolution, co-housing, etc.) implemented to address them.

Teaching methods
This course includes a series of lectures as well as group discussions.
Each course will cover examples of historical and contemporary housing, redrawn at the same scale and using the same graphic conventions.
An exploratory study of an exemplary housing project will be assigned to each student.

Evaluation methods
The evaluation will consist of an oral exam and an individual drawn project.
Each student will present a housing case they have drawn and connect it with concepts developed during the course.
