Main themes
The course introduces several main themes of moral philosophy by linking them to the history of philosophy. The historical dimension is equally as important as the systematic dimension.

Freedom, will, responsibility; eudemonism, deontic morality, utilitarianism; applied ethics, environmental ethics and animal ethics.
Learning outcomes

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

1 By the end of this course, students will be able to adopt a critical (i.e. personal, informed and well-argued) approach to the great moral questions relating to the meaning of happiness, the notion of duty, the concept of value, etc. and to demonstrate their legitimacy and relevance for people and the world today. To do this, they must be able to understand the relevant conceptual and historical dimensions in order to assess the moral issues in any philosophical question and make use of them in a logical and considered way.
 
Evaluation methods
First session:The assessment is divided into two parts:1- Reading report (30% of the final grade): report on a book chosen from the bibliography provided at the beginning of the semester. The format and content will be specified in class and on Moodle. The report is due during the last week of classes of the semester.2- Written exam (70% of the final grade): consisting of questions on the course material, explanations of quotations studied in class, and argumentation questions.Second session:If the student has submitted a reading report with a grade of 10/20 or higher, this grade will be retained (30% of the final grade) and the written exam will account for 70% of the final grade.If the student has not submitted a reading assignment or if the grade is less than 10/20, the written exam accounts for 100% of the final grade.
