Main themes
The didactics and pedagogy of foreign language teaching - in Europe and in French-speaking Belgium in particular - in its various aspects: the organisation of teaching, legal requirements, modern language networks and programmes, support tools for teachers, the various aspects of the modern language teaching profession.
Learning outcomes

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

1 Situating and appropriating the role assigned to the teacher within the school institution, with reference to the legal texts.
 
2 Integrating teaching attitudes and behaviours on the service of the individual and collective training and the management of the class group.
 
3 Acquiring and using the didactics and disciplinary epistemology that guide pedagogic action.
 
4 Measuring the main ethical issues in connection with day-to-day practice.
 
5 Challenging one's initial representations and conceptions with a view to developing them.
 
Content
The course aims to encourage and facilitate reflection on the objectives and methods of foreign language teaching in general and in FWB in particular. The components ("variables") of the teaching situation will be presented, as well as the different methods of teaching and learning modern languages. The official texts (decree and references, teaching programmes) will be analysed in the light of the "Common European Framework of Reference for Languages".
Teaching methods
Various teaching formats including:
  • course sessions by the professor in charge,
  • presentations by stakeholders in education,
  • interactive group discussions.
The course will be given face-to-face (or via TEAMS if necessary - for example in the event of a health crisis such as COVID).
