Master course admission requirements are defined by the French Community of Belgium Decree of 7 November 2013 defining the higher education landscape and the academic organisation of courses.
General and specific admission requirements for this programme must be satisfied at the time of enrolling at the university.
Unless explicitly mentioned, the bachelor's, master's and licentiate degrees listed in this table or on this page are to be understood as those issued by an institution of the French, Flemish or German-speaking Community, or by the Royal Military Academy.
In the event of the divergence between the different linguistic versions of the present conditions, the French version shall prevail.

Specific access requirements
This Master's programme is accessible by application only (see below). Students wishing to enrol in this programme — which is distinct from the Master's in EU Studies and the Master en Etudes européennes also offered by UCLouvain — must meet specific admission requirements.
Language skills
Access to the master’s programme requires a proficiency in English (C1 or higher) attested either through a Language Exam Test (TOEFL iBT with a minimum score of 95, IELTS with a minimum score of 7.0, or a Cambridge Certificate of level C1, issued within the last 5 years) or through other proxies.
These proxies may include, but are not limited to:
- Completion of three English-taught courses (excluding language courses) during the candidate’s University bachelor’s degree (with validated ECTS),
- Professional experience of at least three months involving written tasks in English, related to law or social science topics,
- Participation in English-speaking extracurricular activities relevant to the master’s program, such as preparing for and participating in European Parliament simulations.

Access based on validation of professional experience
It is possible, under certain conditions, to use one's personal and professional experience to enter a university course without having the required qualifications. Access based on application : access may be granted either directly or on the condition of completing additional courses of a maximum of 60 ECTS credits, or refused.

An application-based admission process means that access to the master programme may be granted or refused by the select panel based on an assessment of the candidate’s professional and academic curriculum, including:
- the candidate’s academic background (results obtained in previous studies, and the relevance of previous studies and their suitability in preparing the candidate for the master’s programme in European Studies ;
- the candidate’s motivation and career project ;
- the candidate’s profile (including language skills and extracurricular experiences).
