🇪🇺 Become a professional able to understand and work within the European Union: that is the aim of the Master in EU Studies!
In two years, this Master, taught entirely in English, combines a rigorous analysis of European policies and the functioning of the EU’s institutional and decision-making system with the acquisition of practical skills that can be directly applied in EU affairs careers.
The aim of this degree is therefore to foster critical thinking and a deeper understanding of the political issues behind EU decision-making processes.
Taught in Brussels, at the heart of the European capital, the Master in EU Studies offers direct access to the institutions as well as public and private stakeholders who shape Europe on a daily basis.
Admission to the Master in EU Studies requires a Bachelor degree of at least 180 ECTS credits. It is possible to apply before obtaining your degree (conditional admission).
✔ Holders of specific Bachelor degrees obtained in Belgium are granted direct admission. The list of these degrees is available here.
✔ For other degrees*, admission is subject to the decision of a select panel. Applications are reviewed from February onwards.
The select panel assesses the candidate’s academic background, motivation, and professional project, as well as the overall profile, including language skills and relevant experience.
*Examples of practical cases of degrees subject to the panel’s decision: a bachelor’s degree in History obtained in the Fédération Wallonie‑Bruxelles, or a bachelor’s degree in Law obtained outside Belgium, whether in a European Union country or outside the EU.
A minimum C1 level in English is required to enroll in the Master in EU Studies.
Recognised tests (less than 5 years old):
✔ TOEFL iBT ≥ 95
✔ IELTS ≥ 7.0
✔ Cambridge C1
Other possible proxies:
✔ at least 3 successfully completed university courses taught in English (excluding language courses)
✔ at least 3 months of professional experience involving written tasks in English to be added to the admission file
✔ relevant extracurricular activities in English (e.g., European Parliament simulations)
The Master in EU Studies offers an interdisciplinary and professionally oriented programme that provides a comprehensive understanding of how the European Union works and of its main challenges.
The courses combine academic analysis with practical approaches, delivered by scholars and experts from the European bubble.
The Master is structured as a single track with no optional courses. French classes may be taken outside the Student Annual Programme and do not grant ECTS credits.

An internship is compulsory during the second semester of the second year.

✔ In Belgium or in Europe (at the student’s choice)
The Master's coordinators support students in their search for an internship.
Alternatively, students may complete a Master’s thesis, subject to the approval of the select panel, particularly when justified by their professional project or when an internship cannot be secured within the required timeframe.
With this degree, you can work in European affairs in many forms, at the regional, national, and international levels:

The Institute for European Studies (IEEB) Saint‑Louis Bruxelles is not only a place of teaching but also a research center. IEEB students can actively take part in the seminars organised by the Institute, including those held within its Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence EUMERGENCIES, giving them direct access to the expertise of European researchers, practitioners, and decision‑makers.
