Camille Bertaux is a Postdoctoral Researcher in Environmental Health Law and Visiting Professor at UCLouvain Saint-Louis Brussels, where she will be teaching "Ecosystems and Environmental Health Policies". She is a member of the Centre d'étude du droit de l'environnement (CEDRE).
She holds a PhD in Law from UCLouvain Saint-Louis Brussels (2022-2026), an LL.M. in Environmental Law from Queen Mary University of London (Distinction), and a Master's in Public and International Law from the Université Libre de Bruxelles (Distinction).
Her doctoral thesis, "The Role of the World Health Organisation Guidelines: Influencing Contemporary Environmental (Health) Law. The Case of Air and Water Quality," examines how WHO air and drinking-water quality guidelines shape environmental (health) law, both as a general legal phenomenon and through detailed case studies within international and EU law.
Her current postdoctoral project, "Ending PFAS by Innovative Legal Paths," builds on this expertise to explore legal strategies for addressing PFAS contamination.
Her research interests lie at the intersection of environmental law and public health, with a particular focus on the normative influence of science, notably those of the WHO guidelines, in shaping environmental quality standards. She is also interested in the right to a healthy environment and its articulation with human rights law, the regulation of persistent pollutants such as PFAS, and the emerging One Health approach linking human, animal, and ecosystem health.
