Particle dispersion and deposition in a fully developed turbulent channel flow are investigated using direct numerical simulation. The combined effect of gravity and the Saffman lift force on the particle deposition velocities in upward and downward channel flows are considered. The results are compared with recent experimental measurements and numerical benchmark solutions. The importance of inertial particles accumulation in the buffer layer on the augmentation of particles deposition is
discussed. On the modeling side, the effect of filtering the velocity field on deposition velocity is reported. The success of using a stochastic approach to model the subgrid-scale fluctuations of velocity seen by particles for the prediction of particles concentration and deposition is discussed.
