The Law Faculty of UCLouvain contribute to EU Cybersecurity Month.

The European Cybersecurity Month (ECSM) is the European Union’s annual campaign dedicated to promoting cybersecurity among EU citizens and organizations, and to providing up-to-date online security information through awareness raising and sharing of good practices. Each year, for the entire month of October, hundreds of activities take place across Europe, including conferences, workshops, trainings, webinars, presentations and more, to promote digital security and cyber hygiene.

The Law Faculty of UCLouvain is organizing two conferences, one on October 21 with the title of “Cybersecurity as a key European Policy: Right or Wrong?”and the second on October 29 focussing on the interlink between privacy and cybersecurity under the heading “Data as a (New) Core Company Asset to Protect: Who’s Who?

Both conferences will be interactive and illustrated by use cases allowing participants to grasp how the EU frameworks are shaping the development of technologies and impact our day-to-day life.

Cybersecurity as a key European Policy. Right or Wrong?

21 October 2020 (14.00 – 16.00. Brussels time)

October is the Cybersecurity Awareness Month in the EU. We want to use that opportunity to provide perspectives on what is cybersecurity and what are the relevant EU cybersecurity frameworks.

COVID-19 saw a major uptick in cybersecurity awareness, both from increased cyber attacks on companies’ systems across the globe, as well as from public debate around the (privacy and) security aspects of COVID-19 contact tracing apps. We will run through an interactive attack scenario to give the audience a chance to grasp the complex legal questions that cybersecurity raises in practice.

The debate will be moderated by Enguerrand Marique (UCLouvain, CRIDES-CeDIE) with the input of Diletta De Cicco (Associate Steptoe; UCLouvain, CRIDES) and Charles-Albert Helleputte (UCLouvain, CRIDES; partner Steptoe).

Data as a (New) Core Company Asset to Protect: Who’s Who?

29 October 2020 (10.45 - 12.45. Brussels time)

When data is considered as the new oil, cyber threats have the potential of significantly disrupting the ecosystem. The purpose of the lecture is to provide an overview on the legal aspects EU cybersecurity frameworks.
