Job Gieling

Job Gieling is a highly motivated PhD researcher in the Leyssens group, where he
contributes to cutting-edge research in synthetic and mechanochemical methodologies. He
holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and a Master’s degree in Molecular Sciences
from Radboud University in Nijmegen. Throughout his academic career, Job demonstrated
a strong interest in scientific research, completing two research internships under the
supervision of Professor Nolte. His work focused on the design, synthesis, and
characterisation of supramolecular systems, as well as exploring their innovative
applications.
During his Master’s programme, Job further expanded his expertise through an Erasmus
internship at the University of Bologna, where he worked under the supervision of
Professor Bencivenni to develop novel phase-transfer catalysts. Contributing to the onepot
synthesis of atropisomeric tetrasubstituted hydrazides.
In 2023, Job joined the Leyssens group as a PhD candidate, where his research is centred
on pioneering mechanochemical approaches for the deracemization of active
pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). By leveraging solvent-free techniques, his work aims
to deliver more efficient, sustainable, and environmentally friendly methods for
producing enantiopure materials—a critical advancement for the pharmaceutical industry.
Job’s interdisciplinary background, combined with his passion for green chemistry and
innovative synthetic strategies, positions him as a promising researcher in the field of
asymmetric synthesis and mechanochemistry.
