All-solid-state batteries (ASSBs) are promising next-generation energy storage devices due to their improved safety and high energy density. Among various solid electrolytes, complex metal borohydrides have attracted considerable attention because of their light weight and unique structural properties. However, their practical application remains limited by insufficient room-temperature performance and interfacial instability.
This thesis investigates several borohydride-based solid electrolytes for lithium and sodium batteries through compositional design and nanoconfinement strategies. Zeolite-supported LiBH4 and Na2B12H12 composites were developed to enhance ionic transport and electrochemical stability. The effects of pore structure and composition on ion conduction were systematically studied. In addition, a LiBH4-LiNH2 system modified with hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) was explored, achieving high ionic conductivity and stable lithium plating/stripping behavior. Novel mixed-cation borohydride systems based on tetraalkylammonium borohydrides and LiBH4 were also synthesized, providing insights into structure-property relationships in complex hydrides.
This thesis provides practical strategies for the development of safer and more efficient all-solid-state batteries.
