At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to : | |
By the end of this course, students will be able to : At the end of this course, the student demonstrates that he/she is able to: reformulate orally in French, initially without the support of any note, in a correct and intelligible way, a message formulated in Turkish; recognise and respect the intentions of the author of the original speech; show concentration and perseverance. In a second stage, he/she will achieve these objectives by means of summary note-taking. - assimilate a presentation of approximately three minutes and then reproduce it. The student will have to reproduce the content of this presentation grammatically and stylistically in French. He/she will pay attention to correct speaking technique, i.e. pronunciation, intonation, voice control and rhythm. At the end of the Liaison activity , the student should be able to : - produce a Turkish-French and French-Turkish interpretation in a variety of situations. |

Content
Introduction to consecutive interpreting :
- The speeches to be interpreted deal with various issues and reflect the professional reality of an interpreter. Students will interpret recorded speeches or live oral presentations. The exercises are introduced by a presentation of the specific terminology, theme and context of the text.
Introduction to liaison :
- Management of bilingual communication with bi-active interpretation.

Teaching methods
Consecutive interpreting :
The aim of the course is to introduce students to the techniques of consecutive interpreting by means of practical exercises in consecutive interpreting from Turkish into French. Students will develop their interpreting skills through exercises based on texts that will gradually become longer as the course progresses. The students' performances are followed by a detailed commentary by the teacher. The emphasis is on understanding the message in depth and nuance, appropriating the discourse, expressing the language with a good level of accuracy and communication. Note-taking will be covered at a later stage.
Liaison :
Practical work, interactive exercises, role-playing and simulations.

Evaluation methods
To obtain the credits associated with a TU, students must sit all parts of the examination relating to the TU (whether they relate to learning activities - LAs - or parts of the course).
This teaching unit comprises two distinct parts (consecutive interpreting and Liaison) and therefore separate examinations. The overall mark for the UE is an average calculated as follows.
Weighting of each test in the final mark: 70% for ‘consecutive interpreting’ and 30% for the Liaison.
Attendance is compulsory.
Consecutive interpreting and Liaison :
Oral examination in first/second session
If you fail the UE, you are invited to consult the detailed marks on the MOODLE page of the course. A mark equal to or higher than 10/20 for a part of the course will automatically be carried over to the second session and may not be repeated, provided that all parts have been taken. If you are absent or fail to attend one of the parts, your marks will not be carried over.
