Prerequisites
This teaching unit being of intermediate level, the productive command of basic grammar and vocabulary as well as the command of the language skills as described for the teaching unit of intermediate level (LNEER1823) or for the teaching unit of the first year of the Bachelor's degree in Law (LNEER1821) are required.

Culture In the development of all the above-mentioned skills the course will aim at making the students aware of Dutch and Flemish cultural aspects. |
Content
The course aims at enabling the student to function in the relevant social and professional contexts (law enforcement, the judicial world, the execution of criminal sentences, the field of prevention policies and psycho-social interventions). The student will practise the language in an interactive way through classroom professional-type activities and will therefore be exposed to a variety of real-life situations requiring specific language functions. Regular feedback on the student's oral production will help him consolidate and improve his grammar use, vocabulary accuracy as well as pronunciation.
At the end of the term, the student should have acquired oral skills roughly corresponding to the level B1 of « the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages ».

Teaching methods
- Lessons in groups of max. 20 students
- ! The teaching modalities may be subject to change in accordance with the evolution of the Covid-19 pandemic. The students will of course be notified of these possible changes in due course.
- Interactive communication through classroom activities
- Exposure to a variety of real-life situations requiring specific language functions
- Consolidation and improvement of grammar use, vocabulary accuracy as well as pronunciation

Evaluation methods
Attendance at this language course is required. In accordance with article 72 of the General Regulations for Studies and Examinations, the teacher may propose to the jury that a student who has two unjustified absences for the course be refused registration for the January, June or September session.
January/June exam
Same modalities as in January/June. The continuous assessment is taken into account if it is to the advantage of students.
The student who has not attended the course during the term will be required to take all the tests of the term. The student will also be required to watch 4 compulsory videos, summarize them and comment on them orally. He/she will then take the oral exam itself.

Unless a note of attendance is requested, absence from the oral examination will result in a final mark of absence.
January/June exam
- Continuous assessment (60%) : During the term, students will be required to complete a number of tasks. There will also be regular tests on vocabulary, grammar, written expression, reading comprehension and listening comprehension.
- Oral exam (40%) : An individual formal presentation of a criminology-oriented topic based on a portfolio of scientific article
