Content
This course focuses on the literary translation from French into Spanish of fragments from several novels. The novels are chosen from contemporary works from various French-speaking areas. 
The emphasis is on the correction of typical linguistic and translation errors, as well as on reflecting on the particular challenges of literary translation (style, creativity, language varieties, etc.).
Teaching methods
Classroom-based course
  • Individual translations of fragments + regular feedback
  • Group correction in class
  • Peer correction exercises 
  • Reading of academic articles
At the professor's discretion, 15% of the classroom-based course may be replaced by supervised and/or independent distance learning work.
Evaluation methods
Submission of weekly translations: 15%.
  • evaluation criteria: punctuality, format, linguistic and translational aspects
Reading and synthesis of an academic article: 15% (date to be confirmed)
  • evaluation criteria: preparation work, ability to summarise and to think critically
Exam: translation of a fragment of one of the novels included in the course: 70%.

Second session: Translation of a fragment of one of the novels included in the course
NB: The use of generative AIs and automatic translation tools are not permitted, either for the weekly translation exercises or for the paper on the academic article. Online dictionaries, corpora and documentary research are permitted and recommended for the weekly translations. In all cases, the use of any technology will be done responsibly and in accordance with the practices of academic and scientific integrity and will therefore be systematically indicated by the student.
