At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to : | |
At the end of the unit "Sign Language - Culture", the student will be able to: • mobilize relevant knowledge from the course and from written and oral documents; • to analyze the facts of society in connection with Belgian and foreign deaf cultures and communities in the light of the course; • reformulate ideas critically (reasoning, structure, synthesis, clarity) in a video or written text; • to express during oral presentations (in LSFB) reasoned opinions on the topics studied; • express themselves orally at level B2+ of the European framework of reference for languages (minimum level required) during oral presentations; • to organize their knowledge in a research work |

Content
• Lectures entirely in LSFB on the history of the deaf from Antiquity to the present day, cultural particularities, audism, “deaf gain”, deaf identity, deaf associations, etc.
• Practice of language functions aimed at developing presentation and argumentation skills.

Teaching methods
• Master class in French Belgian Sign Language
• Writing of a literature review and an annotated bibliography by the students requiring significant personal research work.

Evaluation methods
1) Final written and oral exam (in LSFB and/or French) in June (60% of the final grade)
2) Continuing certification assessment (class participation, homework): 40%
- Annotated bibliography (two articles), to be submitted during the semester (15%)
- Literature review: at least six scientific articles to be summarized in a five- to six-page literature review, the theme of which will be communicated in class, to be submitted no later than the last class (25%)
3) Homework (continuous assessment, non certificative)
- Presentation of a deaf association in class (not seen in the previous years of the Bachelor) (15 minutes).
Attendance at classes is compulsory and absence from more than a third of the sessions or unjustified failure to submit any written work within the prescribed time will be sanctioned by a refusal to register for the exam. Of course, the student retains the possibility of benefiting from a second session.
Second session:
Same terms as in June (written work - annotated bibliography and literature review + written and oral exam)
