Overview of the medieval Latin literature.
The course deals with the following themes:
1. The main currents of medieval Latin literature and its principal authors;
2. Their links to their antique heritage;
3. Their posterity in vernacular European literature.

At the end of this course, the student will be able to identify, and place in the context of European culture, the authors and the currents of medieval Latin literature. |
Content
After having described the extension of the concept of literature in the medieval period, the course explores the major chapters of Latin literature in the Middle Ages, focusing on genres and their specific features, ancient origins, and influences on contemporary and later literatures. These elements of literary history are complemented by a specific approach to texts, through the commented reading of selected extracts from medieval Latin literature.
