Main themes
  • Introduction to the role of the psychiatrist, the diagnostic approach and the psychiatric mental/clinical examination
  • Different types of suffering: panic attack, depression, addiction, post-traumatic stress, eating disorders, psychoses, schizophrenia
  • Stereotypes linked to the specificities of people suffering psychologically or presenting psychiatric conditions
  • Management of a patient with behavioral disorders
  • Therapeutic project and multidisciplinary approach
Learning outcomes

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

  • Describe the clinical characteristics of different psychological suffering and psychiatric conditions (2.1)
  • Identify stereotypes linked to the specificities of certain populations such as people suffering psychologically or presenting psychiatric conditions and become aware of their potential bias on clinical reasoning and patient care (stigma of populations) (1.3)
  • Explain the principles to take into consideration when establishing a therapeutic plan for a patient suffering psychologically or presenting psychiatric conditions (2.6)
  • Explain the role of psychiatrist and the key elements of their mental/clinical examination (7.1)
  • Justify the relevance of a multidisciplinary approach in the care of a patient suffering psychologically or presenting psychiatric conditions (7.1)
For a clinical vignette relating to a patient suffering from a psychiatric condition or experiencing psychological distress:
  • Identify the signs, behavioral disorders and symptoms, and their atypicality, and consider the different possible clinical diagnoses (2.3)
  • Identify the adaptations/specificities in the management of such a patient (2.1, 2.3, 2.4, 2.6, 2.7, 3.1)
  • Extract relevant information from a clinical vignette to communicate during discussions between caregivers (physiotherapist, doctor, etc.) (7.2)
