Learning outcomes

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

  • Explain the mechanisms, characteristics and symptoms of acute and chronic pain and the chronic pain and the chronicisation process (2.1)
  • Describe the different types of pain and their pathophysiological causes (2.1)
  • Name and explain prejudices, stereotypes and representations of pain (2.1)
  • Explain the recommendations for therapeutic interventions (3.1)
And in particular, in relation to a patient suffering from pain (clinical vignette and simulated case), the student will be able to simulated case), the student will be able to :
  • Integrate and interpret medical, psychosocial and contextual data (biopsychosocial approach) collected during the history taking and through questionnaires questionnaires, in the medical record (2.2)
  • Identifying, describing and applying the tools needed to carry out a clinical examination, appropriate to painful clinical situations (2.3)
  • Plan the clinical examination on the basis of the patient's history and medical records (2.3)
  • Make a clinical and functional diagnosis by integrating the information gathered during the history and clinical examination 2.4)
  • Identify and explain the clinical elements indicating the need to refer the patient to to a chronic pain centre and identify the relevant information to be communicated to the pain centre. to be communicated to the pain centre (2.5)
