Content
The course examines the European Union’s ecological policies through five main themes. It begins with an analysis of how EU environmental and climate action has evolved over time. It then explores the concept of green growth, questioning its promises and limitations. The third part focuses on the implementation of the European Green Deal, assessing its achievements and the resistance it faces. The course also addresses the tensions between ecological transition and EU trade policy, particularly in the context of international agreements. It further investigates the relationship between climate and biodiversity policies, highlighting both synergies and conflicts
Teaching methods
The course combines lectures with readings that must be completed at home. Class time also includes discussion, where students can exchange views and test their understanding in an interactive way.
Evaluation methods
Student evaluation is based on the submission of a written assignment and an oral presentation of that work during the final class session (80%), as well as the delivery of a current affairs report during one of the course sessions (20%).
The written assignment (40%) consists of a scientific article in the form of a case study related to one of the themes covered in the course, prepared by a group of 2–3 students.
The oral presentation (40%) involves a 25-minute group presentation of the written assignment by all group members.
The current affairs report (20%) consists of a brief presentation (10 to 15 minutes) on a topical issue related to the theme of the session, delivered by a group of 2–3 students.
Generative AI tools may only be used as linguistic assistants to help students revise or improve their written work.
