At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to : | |
| On completing this Unit the student should:- Without a dictionary, understand a text in simple LSFB simple (history, simple information, simple sentences); - Extract the key information from such a text and transfer and convey them in the target language; - Answer general and specific questions on these texts; - Have enriched their lexicon in terms of both current usage and a range of topics - Use basic translation tools; - Analyse, compare and comment critically with reference to relevant theory on the translations of simple texts. |

Content
The written language proficiency course will focus on text comprehension, an approach to lexicology, and an introduction to translation.
Emphasis will be placed on understanding signed messages.
To familiarize students with the Deaf community, they will be required to complete a portfolio to be submitted by the last class of the second semester.

Evaluation methods
Interim assessment (30%): text-video comprehension test (non-verbal, verbal, and descriptive expression) and a test assessing the lexicology section.
Final assessment (70%): text-video comprehension test (40%), introduction to translation test (30%), and a test assessing the lexicology section, and 30% for the portfolio.
Class attendance is mandatory. Absence from more than 1/3 of the sessions or unjustified failure to submit 1/3 of the written work within the prescribed deadline will result in refusal of registration for the exam.
