Main themes
Today, the unsustainable use of materials is increasingly scrutinized, urging a more thoughtful approach to their application based on their inherent properties. This course explores the relationship between materials and spatial structures, examining how material choices impact load-bearing structures across all dimensions—from design to execution. The process includes the creation of digital or physical models, culminating in the construction of a 1:1 scale prototype.

By the end of this course, students will be able to:
  • Assess building materials with a deeper understanding of their fundamental properties,
  • Integrate structural and construction choices to inform and enhance architectural concepts,
  • Apply materials creatively and innovatively in construction processes,
  • Establish connections between materials and architecture to imbue exploratory activities with purpose and meaning.
