Learning outcomes

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

  • Define and identify the dimensions of sports management and the types of sports organisations (1.1.; 1.7.; 4.1.; 4.4.; 7.2., 7.4.;9.1.; 9.2.; 9.3). 
  • Explain the implications of developments (economic, socio-cultural, technological, etc.) in sport for sport management (1.1.; 1.7.; 4.1.; 4.4.; 5.1.; 7.2., 7.4.;9.1.; 9.2.; 9.3). 
  • Identify, explain and illustrate the unique factors of the sports industry (1.1.; 1.7.; 2.1.; 2.2.; 2.4.; 3.2.; 3.4.; 4.1.; 4.4.; 5.1.; 7.2., 7.4.;9.1.; 9.2.; 9.3). 
  • Distinguish between the concepts of governance, management and policy in the context of sports organisations (1.1.; 1.7.; 2.1.; 2.2.; 2.4.; 3.2.; 3.4.; 4.1.; 4.4.; 7.2., 7.4.;9.1.; 9.2.; 9.3). 
  • Explain the range of skills, functions (planning, organisation, leadership and control) and knowledge required by a sports manager (1.1.; 1.7.; 4.1.; 4.4.; 7.2., 7.4.;9.1.; 9.2.; 9.3).
