Learning outcomes

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

  • Describe the role of governance in sport and its importance in ensuring the proper management of sports organisations in a context of professionalisation (1.1., 1.2., 4., 1. 5., 4.1., 7.2.)
  • Explain the theoretical foundations of sports governance and their influence on governance practices in various sports organisations (1.1., 1.2., 1.5., 4.1., 7.2)
  • Explain the regulatory framework specific to not-for-profit sports associations (asbl) and its implications for governance (1.1., 1.2., 1.5., 4.1., 7.2.)
  • Identify the different governance models and structures in sport (1.1., 1.2., 1.5., 4.1., 4.3., 7.2.)
  • Describe the role, functions and performance of the board of directors (1.1., 1.2., 1.5., 4.1., 7.2)
  • Explain the concepts of collaborative governance and shared leadership and how they influence the governance of sport (1.1., 1.2., 1.4., 1 .5., 4.1., 7.2.)
  • Analyse the risks associated with managing sports organisations and how governance can help to manage them effectively (1.1., 1.2., 1.5., 4.1., 7.2.)
