Main themes
  1. The course introduces students to the major trends and tendencies in French literature of the modern period (16th, 17th and 18th centuries) through the reading and analysis of texts from the period. 
  2. The course is organised chronologically, providing historical reference points to understand continuities, filiations, mutations and ruptures.  It links literature to its artistic, cultural, political, social and economic contexts. 
  3. The course introduces students to a reflection on literary history and poetics specific to the period.
