Main themes
From an anthropological perspective, this course aims to examine the conditions of possibility and modes of operation of literature and theater: how do they affect the reader/spectator, beyond the themes addressed, the questions raised and the forms elaborated? What faculties, what knowledge, what emotions do they mobilize? Drawing on a range of human sciences (philosophy, anthropology, psychology, psychoanalysis, linguistics, semiotics, sociology, neuroscience, etc.), the aim is to introduce students to a number of key concepts for the analysis of the literary or theatrical process, such as perception, interpretation, identification, belief, play, the body, etc.
In so doing, the course will lead to an epistemological reflection on the problem of the articulation between the analysis of literary and theatrical works, on the one hand, and problematics and concepts from the human and social sciences, on the other.
In the choice of works studied, particular attention will be paid to Belgian literary and theatrical productions.
