Main themes
After a theoretical introduction which defines in a general manner the mods of operation and presentation of systems of myths, the course will then proceed to analyse a specific example, chosen by the teaching team, from a typological, historical and comparative point of view.
Learning outcomes

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

1 At the end of this course the student will have learnt to analyse the emergence and functioning of the myth in the collective and individual imaginaries (epistemological objective) and to confront in diachronic and synchronous mode comparable mythical universes from different cultures (Grecian-Roman antiquity, Celtic, Egyptian, African, Asiatic etc.) or the permanent features of a mythical system in the same culture (descriptive objective).
 
Content
The course aims to examine the evolution and reception of (the critical discourses surrounding) the mythological figure of Helen across historical periods and linguistic traditions.
Teaching methods
Lecture-based course which critically engages with a wide range of textual and iconographic sources illustrating various aspects of the construction and reception of Helen. The course integrates digital learning technologies.
Evaluation methods
Final written examination assessing the student’s ability to mobilize the methodological and descriptive approaches developed and employed throughout the course. The resit examination may take the form of an oral assessment; students are invited to contact the lecturer for further details.
