Content
This teaching unit involves the development of oral communication practice.  The activities proposed in class aim at training spontaneous and academic communication.
Teaching methods
This teaching unit focuses on topics inspired by everyday life and culture in Flanders and the Netherlands and aims to improve students' language and cultural knowledge.
At the beginning of the semester, a program will be proposed to students and may be adjusted according to their expectations. Current events are a recurring theme in the program.
The productive activities offered will be almost exclusively oral activities such as role-playing, debates on various academic topics, guided or free discussions based on articles, films, video clips, creative presentations, etc.
Some written expression exercises may be offered depending on the group's expectations, but they will not be the focus of the learning process.
Various individual and/or group tasks will be offered, including at least one substantial university-level presentation. During this presentation, students will be required to engage with the audience and demonstrate originality and creativity while maintaining the seriousness of the content presented.
Tools for study and self-directed learning: documents, exercises, and assignments on Moodle-cours (ILV e-learning platform), magazines, etc.
Good listening and reading comprehension skills are prerequisites for successful completion of this course.
Active participation in the two hours of classes per week is mandatory. Students who do not attend classes regularly and/or do not actively participate in class and the required assignments will be denied access to the final assessment, for which they will receive an A (absence grade).
Translation based on DeepL (free version).
Evaluation methods
Various marks contribute to the final assessment:
    Continuous assessment (/14)
    Oral exam (/6)
-Continuous assessment:
Various individual and group tasks to be defined in agreement with the students throughout the semester.
-Oral exam:
Group oral exam on current events and topics covered in class (press articles, reports, interviews, etc. Discussion, debate, role-playing, presentation, etc. To be defined). At the end of the semester or during the exam period (as desired). The grade is individual. The assessment criteria will be communicated to students during the semester.
Attendance is compulsory. If the teacher deems it necessary, she may propose to the jury that a student who has not regularly and actively participated in learning activities (RGEE - art. 72) and submitted the required work be refused registration for the course exam.

During the August-September exam session, students are required to complete an assignment and take an oral exam, the criteria for which will be defined by the instructor.
The ongoing assessment grades for the semester will not be taken into account.

Finally, here is a reminder of the assessment procedures that all students must be aware of:
All parts of the assessment are compulsory.
However, absence (without official justification) from a continuous assessment activity will result in a ‘0’ for that activity; unjustified absence from the oral exam will result in a mark of absence for the entire assessment during the session. In the event of a justified absence from an assessment activity, it will be up to the teacher to assess the situation on the basis of official documents provided no later than the day after the assessment and to decide whether or not to propose a new date or additional activity to the student.
In the event of a justified absence (e.g., due to illness) from the oral exam, the official certificate or document must be sent to the chair of the jury, to the faculty secretariat, with a copy to the professor and course coordinator, no later than the day after the assessment.
Article 103. – Any student registered for exams who is unable to attend one or more of them must notify the chair of the examination board and the faculty administration of the reason for their absence without delay. No later than the day after the end of the impediment, they shall submit to the faculty administration the original supporting documents, i.e., a medical certificate or any other document whose probative value is left to the sole discretion of the chair of the examination board. However, when this day falls on a Saturday, Sunday, September 27, or a legal holiday, the deadline for submitting documents is postponed to the next day that is not one of these days.
We remind you that in the event of absence, even if justified, from an exam during the exam period, you will not be able to take this exam on another date during the same exam period.
In fact, according to UCLouvain's General Regulations for Studies and Exams, the possibility of retaking an exam at a later date during the session in the event of a justified absence is only possible when it is not possible to take this exam in a later session during the academic year.
Possible but not mandatory. The decision is left to the sole discretion of the chair of the examination board after consultation with the course coordinator.
With regard to requests for ‘attendance marks’, only those submitted via the student's virtual office will be taken into account.
Generative artificial intelligence (AI) must be used responsibly and in accordance with academic and scientific integrity practices. Scientific integrity requires that sources be cited, so the use of AI must always be disclosed. The use of artificial intelligence for tasks/exams where it is explicitly prohibited will be considered cheating.
Carrying or having within reach a connected device (even if turned off or in airplane mode) during any form of assessment is prohibited and will be considered cheating. This includes, for example, cell phones, smartwatches, headphones, translation pens, etc. This list is not exhaustive!
Any attempt at cheating/fraud will be reported to the relevant jury and the student will bear the consequences.
