Topics covered (non-exhaustive list):
- Introduction to some technical elements related to the operation of digital tools
- Historical and sociological perspective: how technological advances (writing, printing, digital) affect and are affected by sociological developments.
- Context of emergence of computing, internet and web
- Artificial intelligence and deep learning
- Economic sociology and digital platforms
- Digital and evolution of particular fields (for example: work, journalism, education, family, health, justice, etc.).
- Relationship to oneself, relationship to others in the digital universe (contribution of psychology)
- Relationship to information in a digital world
Teaching methods
The teaching methods combine different approaches: lectures given by the professor; organization of debates; group work sessions; and occasional contributions from guest speakers
Evaluation methods
Students will be assessed according to the following criteria:
  • Continuous assessment (50%): active participation throughout the semester, including the completion of preparatory assignments for class sessions, preparation for and contribution to an in-class debate, as well as engagement in online discussions (forums) related to group work.
  • Final assessment (50%): performance in an individual written examination during the official examination session.
