Learning outcomes

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

  • Distinguish between strategies for promoting and changing physical activity behaviour as a pillar of health. (2.2, 3.1, 3.4, 8.3, 9.1, 9.2, 9.3) 
  • Design an intervention to increase physical activity and reduce sedentary behaviour and physical inactivity (1.1, 1.3, 2.2, 3.1, 3.2, 3.4, 5.1, 8.3, 9.1, 9.2, 9.3) 
  • Analyse social contexts in relation to physical activity and sedentary behaviour. (1.1, 1.7, 2.2, 3.3, 7.3, 9.1, 9.2, 9.3) 
 
Content
  • Chapter 1: Introduction to health promotion through physical activity.
  • Chapter 2: Strategies for promoting health and behavioural change in relation to health and a sedentary lifestyle
  • Chapter 3: Introduction to models of health behaviour adoption (including physical activity):
  • Chapter 4: What is evidence-based practice?
  • Chapter 5_1: Correlates, determinants, moderators and mediators of health, physical activity and sedentary behaviour
  • Chapter 5_2: Correlates: practical examples relating to physical activity and sedentary behaviour
  • Chapter 5_3: Motivators and barriers to physical activity
  • Chapter 6: National and international initiatives for health promotion and physical activity
  • Chapter 7: What role can Evidence-Based Practice play within healthcare (interprofessional team)
Teaching methods
This module will be taught face-to-face in a lecture theatre.
Evaluation methods
  • Assessment of the course is based on a written examination held during the examination period, comprising open-ended questions designed to assess all the learning outcomes of the teaching unit.
  • The assessment arrangements for the first examination period apply to the second examination period.
Other information
This course is reserved for FSM students. Access is possible to other UCLouvain students on the basis of an application to be submitted to the course coordinator.
