Prerequisites
Students must have taken the course LALLE1002 or another equivalent course corresponding to Level A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). 
Main themes
The topics covered are selected in line with the learning outcomes of the programme and the communicative needs as defined by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) for level B1
They cover general and authentic communication situations relating to everyday life, social and cultural contexts, as well as university studies, such as family, leisure, studies, work, accommodation, etc.

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

In accordance with the learning outcomes (LO) for the Bachelor's programmes in ESPO and the descriptors of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages for the target level (B1), this course module contributes to the development and of the following LOs :  
 
  • Listening Comprehension (general) – B1 
    Understand the main points of a speech or conversation in clear, standard language or a colloquial variety, on familiar topics encountered regularly at work, at school or during leisure time, including short narratives. 
     
  • Reading Comprehension (general) – A2+ and B1 
    Understand short, simple texts on common, concrete topics containing a high frequency of everyday or work-related language and read clear factual texts on topics related to their field and interests with a satisfactory level of comprehension. 
 
  • Spoken Production – B1 
    Produce a straightforward, uncomplicated description of a variety of topics within one’s field with relative ease, presenting it as a linear sequence of points. 
     
  • Written Production (general) – B1 
    Produce coherent, uncomplicated texts on a range of varied topics within their field, linking a series of elements in a linear sequence. 
 
  • Spoken Interaction (general) – B1 
    Use a wide range of simple language flexibly to deal with most situations likely to arise in everyday life. Can engage without preparation in a conversation on a familiar topic, express personal opinions and exchange information on familiar topics of personal interest or relevant to everyday life (e.g. family, leisure, work, travel and current events). 
     
  • Written Interaction (general) – B1 
    Write notes and messages to request or convey simple information of immediate interest and to make clear the points they consider important. 
 
  • General Linguistic Competence – B1 
    Have sufficient linguistic resources to get by, and sufficient vocabulary to express themselves with some hesitation and circumlocution on topics such as family, leisure and interests, work, travel and current affairs, but limited vocabulary leads to repetition and sometimes even difficulties in formulation.
