Learning outcomes

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

  • prepare and deliver an oral presentation in small groups on a subject of their choice, followed by an interactive activity with the class.
  • to look for a job advert online or elsewhere, to write their CV and to record a short presentation video for a potential employer;
  • to go through a job interview.
  • to plan and take part in a professional meeting with more than 5 people, using specific language, giving their point of view and making their point.
 
Content
This teaching unit is an intermediate level English course where students are prepared for real-life situations in their future professional life (preparing and delivering an oral presentation, participating in a meeting, looking for a suitable post, applying for it and going through the application and interview process).
The course is designed to give students the necessary tools to achieve these tasks.
Teaching methods
This course is given in the second quadrimester, two hours a week for a toal of 15 hours.
The course includes
  • the practice of oral skills such as pronunciation
  • and interactive activities such as mini-debates to practice and improve fluency and the command of the oral language.
It also includes role plays and public speaking practice exercises in order to be prepared for an oral presentation.
Evaluation methods
The course is evaluated as follows:
  • 10 % for active participation in class (includes attendance, preparing and leading a mini-debate, asking questions during presentations)
  • 20 % for preparing and delivering an oral presentation followed by an interactive activity for the class
  • 40 % for the job application as follows:
    5 % for finding a relevant job offer and designing a CV,
    20 % for the job interview
    and 15 % for recording a presentation video.
  • 15 % for a vocabulary and grammar test
  • 15 % for planning and taking part in a meeting (role play)
