Main themes
Taking a stand, sharing an experience, asserting a critical perspective, and engaging with an audience—the ‘Contextual Arts’ course delves into artistic practices across various contexts, informed by the theory and history of art and architecture.
The course initiates a creative process grounded in questions related to social phenomena. It encourages the use of alternative modes of representation—beyond the plans and models typically employed by architects—to engage with reality and reflect on these questions through a committed and narrative-driven approach.
Each year, the course revolves around a specific theme.

Content
Microtopie and flexible spaces created from de-classified tents.
A workshop aimed at creating a
Collective project, followed small groups: understanding and familiarising oneself with the materials and components that make up de-classified tents; exploring the properties of the textiles and frameworks; deconstructing in order to reassemble and upcycle. Transform this material to expand its uses in the spirit of ‘flexible spaces’, enhance its visual and poetic qualities, and create new relationships with space.
Preferred methods: 1:1 scale model, freehand technical drawing, photography, 1:1 scale installation.
Individual production: Presenting the experiments in a personal way, integrating and exploring the references discovered through the ‘MAKING’ process in order to contextualise it and share the final collective project.
Contributions in textile design, contemporary arts, architecture, humanities and social sciences

9.30 am – 11.30 am: experimentation
11.30 am – 12.45 pm: input and discussions
4 sessions of experimentation and input guided by the tutors (textiles, contextual arts, writing) + personal exploration*
4 sessions of project development in small groups: with input from the tutors based on the direction of the work in progress and the students’ personal exploration
2 sessions dedicated to an exhibition and collective reflection on the subsequent presentation
* Personal in-depth studies are shared during a short presentation by the student to the group: development of a process, explanation via a tutorial, research into a technique, presentation of materials, resources or the approach of an artist or architect, etc.

Evaluation methods
Group work: assessment = 50% (continuous assessment, submission of personal in-depth studies and process on Moodle)
Individual work: presentation of personalised group work = 50% (during the January session) Assessment criteria based on learning outcomes.
