Content
The general themes addressed are based on the presentation of Roman archaeological sources from the first provinces administered in southern Gaul (Transalpine Gaul, then Narbonensis, Aquitaine), mainly in northern Gaul (Belgium and Germania, in connection with Lyonnais), including present-day Belgium and neighboring countries (France, the Netherlands, Germany, the Grand Duchy): the evolution of the geopolitical framework and the role of the army, the formation of the road network and the design of cities (pillars of the municipal system), the emergence and evolution of urban centers (county towns and agglomerations), the management of city territories and rural occupation, the evolution of funeral customs and religious practices (from polytheism to the emergence of Christianity in late antiquity), and economic activities. The defense of the late ancient territory will be presented, establishing a link with the LARKO2420 course, which introduces the Germanization of society and population movements up to the 5th century AD, then the cultures of the early Middle Ages.
